Get ready for a wild weekend weather rollercoaster! Sunny and mild days will give way to heavy rain on Friday, possibly mixing with wet snow in some areas. Sunday brings a 'polar plunge' with temperatures dropping into the 20s, lasting until Christmas Eve.
It won't be enough for a White Christmas, but forecasters say you could see some flurries Friday night into Saturday morning in parts of our area. Temperatures will continue to tumble on Thursday after a few days of balmy weather. Bright sunshine will dominate the skies with highs in the 40s. Forecasters expect a mostly rainy Friday starting in the late morning with widespread showers stretching across our entire area.
The rain, which may be heavy at times, will linger throughout the day and will briefly switch over to wet snow in places west and north of the city. Little – if any – snow is expected to accumulate in our area. The National Weather Service, however, says 1-3 inches of snow could fall in the Poconos. Colder temperatures will follow the wet weather, with a 'polar plunge' expected on Sunday that will plummet daytime temperatures in the 20s. The frigid temperatures will linger into Monday and on Christmas Eve, when forecasters expect clouds with highs in the 30s
