Telstra is sending letters to its deceased customers despite their family members pleading for the telco to stop the mail.

Executive for contact centres Claire Johnston said it is "deeply sorry" for the pain and anguish it has caused customers."In their time of need we absolutely let them down," Ms Johnston said.

"We are also setting up a special 1800 number now to help remove any extra stress that customers have to endure to try and get to our compassionate care team." It says it will consider Telstra's response and take all necessary steps to ensure the telco meets its regulatory obligations.
