NEW: Nearly 100 members of Congress are demanding the Trump admin. stop a policy that would strip international students of their visas if their coursework is entirely online when classes resume in the fall, a letter shared with NBCNews says.

The letter went on to say international students contribute enormously to the country by bringing diverse perspectives and experiences to their communities.

They also requested a staff briefing to discuss the administration’s rationale for the policy by July 16. Students on F-1 and M-1 visas who face such a situation"must depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction to remain in lawful status," the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said in aThose who violate the rules"may face immigration consequences including, but not limited to, the initiation of removal proceedings," the agency said.they were suing the Trump administration over the policy.
