The sibling duo ‘AKMU’ will leave YG Entertainment, where they have been for 12 years since their debut. On the 21st, YG Entertainment issued an official statement, saying, “AKMU has decided, after deep deliberation, to try pursuing their music in a new environment,” and added, “We sincerely support their future.
” YG said that six months ago, after executive producer Yang Hyun-suk met with the siblings, Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun of AKMU, and spoke with them, this decision was made, explaining that Yang conveyed his sincere intention to encourage the siblings as they contemplated independence for a new challenge and to support them from behind. YG said, “Being able to watch the growth of AKMU up close was also a great joy for the company,” and, “We are deeply grateful to AKMU for gifting amazing music and moving moments over the years.” It is reported that the members of AKMU delivered a handwritten letter expressing their gratitude to Yang. Akdong Musician, composed of the siblings Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun, won on the SBS audition program in 2013 and drew public attention. They subsequently signed an exclusive contract with YG Entertainment and officially debuted in the music industry, going on to release hit songs such as ‘200%’, ‘How Could I Love the Heartbreak, I Love You’, ‘NAKKA’, and ‘DINOSAUR’. Since 2019, they have been active under the official name ‘AKMU’.
