‘Recognition’ US Federal Reserve’s job to manage inflation ‘not nearly complete’

CommSec’s Tom Piotrowski says the US Federal Reserve’s pathway to manage inflation is not “dissimilar” to what is expected from Australia’s Reserve Bank, following news of a pause of US rate hikes.

“There was a very widely discussed recognition that the job when it comes to managing inflation is not nearly complete and that more rate hikes are expected in the near to medium term,” Mr Piotrowski told Sky News Australia.

“And within the Fed’s forecast, the expectation is that we’ll see two more quarter-point hikes in the near term. “And that’s not dissimilar to what we’re seeing in terms of the conversation around the RBA’s pathway as well, the market pricing in terms of RBA decisions between now and the end of the year, to turn around an expectation of two more quarter-point rate hikes.”
