A few days before Chris Barrett was due to start his job as the chair of the new Productivity Commission, the Treasurer has been forced to announce his replacement, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. Treasurer Jim Chalmers on Wednesday announced that he’s now appointed Danielle Wood from the Grattan Institute after Mr Barrett pulled out of the role and was announced as Victorian Secretary of Treasury. “There was a big song and dance in July by the Treasurer about the appointment of then new Productivity Commission chair, Chris Barrett – a former staffer with Mr Chalmers to Wayne Swan,” Mr Clennell said. “Here’s the champagne being uncorked in July and the cork being shoved back in today. “It appears, on the surface anyway, to be a bit of a blow to the Treasurer.”
