2025.10.01 Presidential Office Photo Correspondents Singer Park Jin-young explained his reason for accepting the chairmanship of the presidential Popular Culture Exchange Committee, saying, “I decided to try doing things for the K-pop industry that cannot be done at the company level.” On the 5th, on MBC , Park said, “I ended up taking the post after declining it several times.” He said he turned down an appointment with President Lee Jae-myung to appear on the show. He said, “There is a lot to coordinate in the schedule, and when the President cannot make it, the reason is things like the National Strategy Meeting, but for me it was ‘Radio Star’.” Although Park is serving as a part-time chair, the first offer from the government was for a full-time position. He said, “At first I was offered a full-time role, but I declined for three months,” and, “Even when I refused for various reasons, Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik addressed those reasons. In the end, there was no reason left to refuse.” He continued, “If it were full-time, I could receive a salary, but it would be too much of a burden, so I declined. I am a singer, and I also need to appear on ‘Radio Star,’ so how could I do it?” He added, “There were courtesies as well, but I declined.” Park said, “I also felt burdened by situations where my political leanings could be misunderstood,” while adding, “If it were just me, I could handle it, but it was hard because my company and family are tied to me.” He continued, “I have not disclosed my political leanings for 30 years, but since there are people who are concerned, I might as well say it. Instead, I will say it within one minute.” He said, “In capitalism, if the government does not intervene, it is too advantageous to the rich. That is why policies from the progressive camp are necessary so that the government can protect powerless ordinary people,” while adding, “But the problem is that if you protect ordinary people too much compared to other countries, capitalists will move to other countries. To prevent this, policies from the conservative camp are also essential.” He said, “Looking at the times and other countries, balance is needed,” and, “I have no intention of belonging to any camp.
