AsiaCup2020 SauravGanguly BCCI PCB Coronavirus Pakistan India Newsonepk
The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday reacted strongly to Board of Control for Cricket in India President Sourav Ganguly’s claim that Asia Cup has been called off due to coronavirus pandemic.“Saurav Ganguly’s statement regarding the Asia Cup 2020 that it stands cancelled has no merit,” PCB’s media director Samiul Hasan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times. “It is up to the Asian Cricket Council to decide on the fate of the tournament.
Ganguly’s statement comes after Pakistan Cricket Board chief executive Wasim Khan said last month the Asia Cup would go ahead as scheduled in either Sri Lanka or the UAE. If these tournaments are scrapped, it will pave the way for this season’s lucrative Indian Premier League — which was postponed amid the nationwide lockdown — to find new dates.“ICC is trying that World T20 takes place in October. Because ICC generates a lot of revenue from this.
“We will try hard to and make it happen, because it is very important for India,” said the former Indian captain. The Sri Lankan and UAE cricket boards have already shown interest in hosting the T20 tournament, which attracts global superstars.
