Nicolas Cage crouched on a desk in-costume in Spider-Noir
The superhero genre has slowed down since the pandemic, with fans growing tired of the same old routine. However, things seem to be changing now, with 2025 and 2026 already delivering some of the best the genre has to offer, including Superman and Thunderbolts*.
Superhero fans have been eating well, but there is plenty more on the horizon, including Supergirl and Avengers: Doomsday. Superhero movies are the big draw for viewers, but there are even more TV shows to get excited about, which is why this list will highlight eight superhero series that fans shouldn't miss out on. Based on anticipation, fan excitement, story potential, names attached, and overall quality, these eight shows are absolute must-watches. This list will focus on superhero shows coming out in 2026, but it will also feature a couple of series without a release date. 1 'VisionQuest' One of the most exciting stories to watch on Disney+ is the aftermath of Wanda , and 2026 will mark the conclusion of the trilogy. After WandaVision and Agatha All Along, this year will see the release of VisionQuest, and while fans don't know the exact plot, they can expect to see Vision go on a path of self-discovery amidst his new life, including the likely appearance of Ultron . VisionQuest has flown under the radar for many fans mainly because of its late release date, lack of details, and the fact that it is overshadowed by other Marvel shows, including Daredevil: Born Again. However, that shouldn't discredit the potential that this series has, especially considering WandaVision and Agatha All Along were two of the best Disney+ MCU series. Fans won't want to miss the epic conclusion to the one story the MCU shows have built upon over the past decade. 2 'X-Men '97 Season 2' Fans usually prefer new and original concepts, but sometimes having reimaginings or revivals is even better, and that is proved by X-Men '97, a sequel series to X-Men: The Animated Series. Fans were skeptical at first, but the first season was absolutely spectacular, and the second season will come out in 2026, following the scattered groups of the X-Men navigating the past and future. X-Men '97 is one of the best animated superhero series, meaning season two is one of the most anticipated shows coming out this year. With its distinct style, well-represented characters, riveting plotline, and epic action, this series is a standout that more fans need to experience. X-Men '97 season 2 will have a darker story, the reuniting of the Summers family, and a time-focused survival plot, making it ripe with potential. 3 'Booster Gold' DC is under a massive reshaping, and Superman proved that it is on the right track. But there is more than movies on the horizon, with plenty of exciting TV shows announced, including Booster Gold. The character is a time traveler from the future, coming back to the present day with modern-day items that seem advanced to the people of the present. From comedic shenanigans to failing upward, Booster Gold tries his best to be a hero. Sadly, many DCU shows have had a rocky schedule, including Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold is no different. Rumors are floating that the series has been canceled after the showrunner deleted everything associated with DC. However, with no official confirmation, fans should still look forward to this show. The premise is unique, and the story has so many avenues to explore, making Booster Gold a must-watch show if it ever comes out. 4 'Wonder Man Season 2' Disney+ hasn't had the best track record with MCU shows, but they seem to be experimenting, and for the better, because fans get projects like Wonder Man. The first season was one of the most unexpected delights of the past few years, and after Simon broke Trevor out of jail, no one knows where the story will go next, but Simon is sure to embrace his superhero roots. The first season of Wonder Man is a masterpiece from start to finish, and a massive shift towards its usual content. From the excellent dynamic between the characters to the dramatic plot and superhero lore, this show was a special experience and a telling moment, proving the MCU needs to broaden their horizons. Wonder Man season two was just recently announced, but it is already a show that fans cannot miss out on, even if it isn't for a while. 5 'Mister Miracle' As mentioned, DC is still in the midst of a rebuild, meaning some shows will take longer than others, and some might be delayed. However, one of the unexpected animated series announced was Mister Miracle. Besides an announcement and an initial poster, fans don't know anything about this series, but the teaser has given fans enough to get excited, showing off the titular character and Big Barda. When it comes to animated series, no one is better than DC, with some of the greatest cartoons of all time, and Mister Miracle could be next. With a creative dream team, some of the best source material, and storytelling potential, this animated series will have major DCU implications. The New Gods will make an appearance, and fans especially can't wait until they see Darkseid's first appearance in the DCU, making Mister Miracle a dazzling and riveting upcoming superhero show. 6 'Spider-Noir' Fans are getting a lot of Spider-Man content this year, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day coming out in the summer and Spider-Noir releasing just a little earlier in May. After debuting as the titular character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Nicolas Cage will reprise his role, but this time in live-action. Struggling and down on his luck, Spider-Noir must grapple with his pain and still be the city's one and only hero. Cage is always a must-watch actor with anything he is in, and Spider-Noir will be a quintessential performance from him, allowing the actor to be as free and overdramatic as he likes. Plus, this will be a visual feast, boasting a bold, creative style that brings noir to the modern-day and in a superhero style as well. Spider-Noir will also be R-rated, so while it won't be kid-friendly, adults should get even more excited about this mature take on Spider-Man in 1930s New York City. 7 'Lanterns' Almost every announced DCU TV show has had a rocky time getting off the ground, but one of the few coming out in 2026 is Lanterns. Starring Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, the latter is training the former to be a Green Lantern. This buddy-cop duo investigate a string of mysteries in a small town with a strange and dark presence that only the defenders of this planet system can take care of. Some criticized it for the lack of color, but this gritty reimagining of the characters provides a riveting new story with great potential. Focusing on mystery and a lead character dynamic, Lanterns will have a different, but welcomed style that could be exactly what DC needs. 8 'The Boys Season 5' Marvel and DC are the two largest superhero franchises, but this time, a TV show from these two powerhouses isn't the most anticipated. The Boys took over the world with its gory style, engaging story, well-written characters, and pure superhero shock value. After over half a decade, the ending is happening in 2026, with season five of The Boys being the last. This final clash will put heroes against humans and determine the fate of both. While some viewers aren't happy with the direction of the latest seasons and have been dulled by all the shock and gore, The Boys is still one of the best shows on TV right now, and the finale will be the biggest event on television this year. No one should miss out on the biggest and wildest finale of 2026, with this last season promising to up the stakes, drama, and violence, leaving viewers wondering what will happen to their favorite characters. There are so many questions that fans need answers to, making The Boys the most anticipated superhero project of 2026.Are You? A Personality Quiz · 10 Questions Six heroes. One destiny.
