Alaskan artist Ray Troll and Smithsonian paleontologist Kirk Johnson have recorded and illustrated their adventures in three books over a nearly three-decade collaboration. They share tales from their travels across North America in this live event.
Billed as Anchorage’s iconic winter festival, the 91st Fur Rendezvous kicks off this weekend. The festival has everything from sled dog races to snow sculptures and fireworks to the famous frostbite footrace. Check theThis competition includes kids that are in grades 1-8 and participants are limited to two boys and two girls per event, per team. The event is free and open to the public.This seventh annual event brings together the Black community and other people of color in conversation and action. It honors the late Bettye Davis, who was the first African American ever to be elected to the Alaska State Senate. Teams from Alaska, Washington and the Pacific Northwest region will have a chance to advance to the Regional Golden Gloves. The competition is open to athletes in boxing, MMA, jujitsu and local martial arts clubs.Atlanta-based cellist and songwriter Okorie “OkCello” Johnson combines looped layers, improvisation and musical storytelling to blur genres and create a new approach to the cello. The UAA music department presents this unique concert experience, which features genres from classical and jazz to opera and musical theater. The show is also a key music department fundraiser. The Irish Dance Academy of Alaska presents this celebration of heritage that includes dance, Alaska Celtic pipes and drums as well as traditional Celtic fiddle music.Minnesota Gov.
