The Star Wars galaxy is ever-expanding, with a stunning range of New York Times-bestselling novels. Here are the best authors fans need to follow!
Here are the top Star Wars authors every fan needs to read. Star Wars has always been a transmedia franchise. The first official tie-in novel, Alan Dean Foster's Splinter of the Mind's Eye, was published before The Empire Strikes Back even released. But it wasn't until 1991 that Star Wars really began exploring the potential of novels, with Bantam releasing a string of New York Times-bestselling books.
8 Delilah S. Dawson Most Star Wars authors focus on the heroes, but Delilah S. Dawson is different. She's particularly noted for her love of the bad guys, and enjoys getting into the minds of characters like Captain Phasma or Darth Vader's Inquisitors. Every one of Dawson's books is better than the last; so far, the highlight is Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade, which stars a Jedi destined to become one of the Imperial Inquisitors.
5 Matt Stover Matt Stover's novel of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith is still the best Star Wars story ever told. A celebrated fantasy and science-fiction writer, Stover has actually only written four Star Wars books, but they're all unmissable. He made his debut in the harrowing "New Jedi Order" novel Traitor, a Legends novel that subjected Han and Leia's son Jacen to brutal torture and questioned the philosophy at the heart of the Jedi Order.
Luceno continued writing Star Wars after Disney bought the franchise in 2012, and wrote several of the foundational books in the new canon. He played a key role in the tremendous transmedia publishing project surrounding the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, writing a prequel novel Catalyst. Luceno has now retired.
