Potential Sherlock season 5 or movie storylines.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Though it has been around six years since BBC's hit series Sherlock came to an end, fans of the show are still clamoring for a season 5, and creator Mark Gatiss has hinted that a movie could be the next step, however where will the series go next in terms of story? Sherlock is a mystery crime series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic characters Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.

The modern take on the classic detective ran for a total of four seasons and stunned audiences with its wit, twisty plot, and lovable versions of well-known characters. While Sherlock season 4 succeeded at wrapping up the series, that doesn't mean that season 5 would be impossible. When it comes to a world like Sherlock that is so vast, and also, preexisting, there are a variety of storylines that could be restarted or continue in season 5 or a Sherlock movie. For the most part, the following plots are those that Sherlock's viewers would be most eager to see brought back to the screen. These are the storylines that were best-loved during the show's run or never got the chance to truly shine by the end. 8 Justice For Molly After Sherlock Season 4's Cruel Trick One of the biggest unresolved plots from BBC's Sherlock came in the form of the show's resident mortician, Molly Hooper, being forced to confess her feeling to Sherlock without really any resolution. It occurred during the series' last episode, "The Final Problem" when Sherlock's sister, Eurus, was in the midst of playing mind games with him, Watson, and Mycroft. In one instance, Sherlock and Molly were forced to talk on the phone and Sherlock told her he loved her, and in response, she revealed that she had always had feelings for him. However, despite these declarations, Sherlock failed Molly Hooper by never mentioning it again. Ideally, in Sherlock season 5 or a Sherlock movie, Molly would get the justice she deserves after spilling her feelings without a clear response. The best option would be the season showing Molly moved on from her obsession with Sherlock. Considering his lack of emotional availability, it would be great to see Molly not only healed from her feelings, but also, potentially moved on with someone else. Then again, there is also the chance that Sherlock and Molly could be together. Though it has been several years since Sherlock season 4, a movie could rekindle their feelings or allow them to start over on more healthy terms. 7 Are Sherlock & Irene Adler Still A Thing? On the topic of romance, Sherlock season 5 would be wise in bringing back Irene Adler. Also known as the Woman, Adler became beloved after her first appearance in Sherlock season 2. It would also make a sort of sense since this is yet another storyline that never got an obvious resolution. Sherlock and Irene clearly had a connection in Sherlock that surpassed just mere curiosity. Though Doyle's version of Sherlock is firmly opposed to romance, the BBC Sherlock's Irene romance seems much more likely. So, Sherlock season 5 could see Holmes' world turned upside down when his crush returns to town. 6 Finally Meeting Season 1's Harry Watson Sherlock is full of mysterious and flawed characters, but one that never got the chance to shine is John Watson's sister Harriet "Harry" Watson. She is first introduced when Sherlock deduces that John has a sibling named Harry, though Sherlock assumes Harry is a man. It is explained that Harry was in a relationship with a woman named Clara, but broke it off due to her alcoholism. Though Harry was invited to John's wedding, she never came. Ultimately, Harry offers the opportunity for a really interesting turn in John Watson's life. Especially as a single father, Harry's return could create some fascinating conflict and resolution. 5 John And Sherlock Realistically Raising Rosamund Another somewhat forgotten character is Rosamund Watson, the daughter of John and Mary. In the first episode of Sherlock season 4, "The Six Thatchers," John's wife Mary is killed after she takes a bullet for Sherlock. This event is completely shocking, and worse, leaves John alone to raise their infant daughter. And while the remainder of season 4 sort of sees that, it isn't explored nearly to its fullest extent. Sherlock season 5, or a movie, would benefit greatly from seeing Sherlock and John raising a child together as it would be a task much harder than solving mysteries. Plus, it would likely bond them in a different, domestic way. 4 Will John Write "The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes?" More often than not, BBC's Sherlock uses Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, and another book reference that could appear in a new Sherlock season is Watson writing "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes." In Doyle's writings, the books exist because John Watson is writing them, essentially documenting his and Sherlock's successes. It would be interesting to paste this idea onto Sherlock because it would be a great connection to Doyle's literature, but also, it might show a new side to John Watson. Additionally, it would likely bring Sherlock and Watson even more fame, which admittedly, could also be interesting. 3 Expanding On Sherlock's Interesting Side Characters While Sherlock and Watson are the main characters of Sherlock, the series has built up an equally interesting cast of side characters that could benefit from more extended storylines. For example, Sherlock's brother Mycroft becomes somewhat indispensable during season 4 due to his government ties. Mycroft is considered to be the government. As convenient as this is, it could be interesting to delve into how Mycroft got into his work and whether he's faced any consequences for his Sherlock-centered mistakes. Other characters that definitely deserve more backstory include Molly and Lestrade. 2 A Potential Eurus Holmes Redemption Arc The final episode of Sherlock introduced an incredibly interesting and maniacal character in Eurus Holmes. Hidden from her family, and in particular Sherlock, Eurus has outstanding skills of persuasion and sadistic tendencies that make her one of the show's worst villains. However, by the end of the episode, Eurus is quelled by Sherlock and the Holmes have their version of a happy family ending. Despite this, Eurus' character is simply too intriguing to give up so easily. Sherlock season 5 would need to bring back Eurus and give her an even better redemption arc then before that could hopefully bond the Holmes siblings even more. 1 Returning To Small Deductions Rather Than Overarching, Personal Plots If Sherlock were to return with a fifth season or a movie, there is one idea that would be very beneficial to implement. During the later seasons of Sherlock, many viewers were disappointed with the fact that the series had gone from Sherlock and Watson solving mysteries in a single episode to every episode being a part of a larger, overarching plot that almost inevitably had personal ties. Therefore, if Sherlock were to return, it would be great for the series to return to its roots and focus simply on the relationship and work of Sherlock and Watson. Of course, major plot twists and mindbending turns are also still acceptable.
