This year, eight of the City of Cape Town’s libraries will host career expos, with the goal of providing learners and those looking to change careers with the information they need while making the decision-making process fun, informative, and accessible.As part of the City’s inclusive economic growth strategy, libraries will host career expos to assist learners, patrons, unemployed youth and those interested in making an informed career choice.
“Career expos are a fun way to get the information you need to make the best decision about your future employment,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross. She continued, “More than free career advice, the expos are a chance to practise your interview skills and provide networking opportunities. Learners are exposed to occupations they may not be aware of or haven’t considered.”The libraries, in collaboration with external stakeholders, will continue to be an important source of career information and will bring all of the necessary role players together under one roof to get patrons excited about choosing a career.
