On the surface, Deckard dreams of a unicorn running free, a symbol of his inability to escape the system he is trapped inside. Alternatively, the unicorn could represent Rachael, another character who is unknowingly caught in a trap without realizing the reality of her origins.
5 Deckard Doesn’t Answer Rachael’s Question In the world of Blade Runner, the Voight-Kampff Test is a simple protocol designed to ascertain whether a given individual is secretly a replicant. Thus, when Rachael asks whether professional replicant hunter Deckard ever took the Voight-Kampff Test himself, one would expect him to admit he had done so out of curiosity. Alternatively, Deckard could have vehemently denied that he did, proving that he can’t imagine himself as a replicant.
