SALT LAKE CITY — From the top to the bottom of the Beehive State, there are several thousand people who have lost power over the past few hours.
Rocky Mountain Power reported on its website that 8,519 customers were impacted by outages. By 6 p.m., that number was below 5,000. This comes as severe weather hit all over the state, with strong, gusty winds and thunderstorms.
However, the causes of most of the outages are not yet officially determined. The outages range from Lewiston in Cache County, all the way to Toquerville in Washington County. The largest clusters are in the Salt Lake Valley. RMP confirmed that around 2,000 customers on the east side of Salt Lake City lost electricity after at least three power lines were brought down by the wind near 1700 South and 2100 East.
There were also 960 near Mendon in Cache County and about 1,000 in Summit County. Around 1,400 in Washington County have since been restored. You can find estimates on when power will be restored in individual areas and more on the RMP website.
