The Memphis Police Department says it has disciplined two more officers after murder charges against five others in the death of Tyre Nichols; two EMTs and a fire lieutenant were also fired.
Memphis Police Department officers used a stun gun, a baton and their fists as they pummeled Nichols during the nighttime arrest. Video shows Nichols running away from officers toward his house after he was pulled over on suspicion of reckless driving.
Lawyers for the Nichols family questioned Monday why the department did not disclose Hemphill’s discipline earlier and why he has not been fired or charged. Memphis Police Director Cerelyn “CJ" Davis told The Associated Press in an interview Friday that a"lack of supervision in this incident was a major problem.”
The Memphis Police Department released the video Friday. It includes police body cam footage and footage from a surveillance camera on a pole.
