The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim his Charles Murphy. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded at 11:18 a.m. Monday to a home in the 900 block of 51st Street.

Witnesses and authorities said Murphy and his wife both safely escaped the blaze, but then Murphy went back inside for unknown reasons. He did not come back out. A team of firefighters rushed into the house and rescued Murphy.
