James Harden will reunite with the Sixers in Colorado. Are there any reasons to be optimistic?
saga. For months, the assumption was that if Harden didn’t receive his wish to be traded away from the 76ers, then the fireworks would ensue at some point.
As expected, Sixers fans are dreading the drama, as it mirrors the Ben Simmons saga from two seasons ago. Simmons and his camp spent the entire summer of 2021 attempting to push their way out of Philadelphia. When camp rolled around, Simmons was a no-show at first. When he finally came, he was a distraction.
History says Harden won’t show up and practice as if nothing happened this summer. If we’re predicting based on the past, Harden could show up unmotivated and make day two of training camp much less productive than day one. This time around, the NBA MVP is genuinely understanding and supportive of his teammate’s rift with the front office. The big man noted the situation is unfortunate, but it won’t cause Embiid to rant about it publicly, as he established a good friendship with Harden over the last year and a half., and others who have built great relationships with Harden over time. All of them have voiced their support for Harden — and all of them have made it clear they’d welcome him back with open arms.
