At India Today Conclave East 2021, Bibek Debroy, Chairman, Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, highlighted that West Bengal's law and order situation is one of the biggest issues hindering industrial growth in the state.

The 66-year-old noted economist added that labour and land were other core issues that have hindered industrial growth and manufacturing in West Bengal in comparison to other states. Terming West Bengal’s economic progress as average, he asked, “Is West Bengal content with being just about average or marginally better or should West Bengal be talked about in the same brand as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra?” Later in the session, Debroy pointed out issues that need to be addressed to boost Bengal’s industrial growth.
