This is the fifth year the news magazine has compiled the list, ranking more than 2,300 facilities in 28 countries and surveying over 80,000 medical experts.

Newsweek said it not only looks at hospitals that provide elite care, research and innovation, but also facilities that do so on a consistent basis. “Of all the hospitals in the world, relatively few can do all those things year in and year out. The best belong to a very exclusive club,” Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s global editor in chief, said in announcingThe outlet incorporated a new scoring measure this year known as PROM , which involve “standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life.”46.
