Exceptionally high tides — known as king tides — are coming to the San Francisco Bay Area from Dec. 22 to 24, and minor flooding is expected along the bay's shoreline and along the coast, especially on Friday and Saturday mornings, the National Weather Service said. Flooded water may block access to entries and exits to coves, narrow beaches and sloughs, as well as along coastal trails, sidewalks and underpasses, the agency said in an advisory.
"Low-lying Marin County is usually the most vulnerable," said Jeff Lorber, a forecaster with the weather service."You could also see flooding along San Francisco's Embarcadero." During these events, exceptionally low tides also occur."Mariners may experience issues with shallow water," the weather service warned."Folks that explore the tide pools at low tide should be aware that there could be occasional waves running farther up the beach than normal. Do not turn your back on the ocean."
