The mainland U.S. did not receive any tsunami alerts. Local authorities in the Cayman Islands and Puerto Rico urged residents to avoid entering the water as a precautionary measure. 'Although a high impact event is not anticipated, as a safety measure, no one should be in the water until further notice. It is important to follow official information and avoid the spread of rumors,' explained Ángel Vázquez, director of the Puerto Rico Seismic Network.The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service informed CBS News that there were no reports of damage resulting from the earthquake itself. As of 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time, at least 270 individuals had reported feeling the quake to the USGS
