66-year-old man in Sheriff's Department's custody dies at San Diego hospital [Breaking]
A 66-year-old man who was in the Sheriff’s Department’s custody at a San Diego hospital died Monday night, officials said Tuesday.
Paul Arthur Heimark was being booked into jail on June 16 after authorities said he failed to comply with his probation in a drug case when sheriff’s medical staff discovered he had several medical issues, department officials said. Heimark, a San Diego resident, was taken to a hospital before he could be jailed. He died 10 days later, officials said.The sheriff’s homicide unit will investigate the death, as they do for all such cases. The county Medical Examiner’s Office will determine how Heimark died.
The incident marks the department’s seventh in-custody death this year. A record 19 people died in county jails last year, with a 20th death occurring shortly after a person was released from custody for medical reasons., 33, was found unresponsive in his cell on Feb. 1 and died at a hospital several days later. Thuresson had been in custody since Oct. 4 when San Diego police arrested him in connection with two felony warrants, and additional charges.
, 67, died in county jail in downtown San Diego on Feb. 21, a day after he was arrested in a suspected drunken driving crash in Oceanside, officials said.
