The California Department of Transportation announced a 55-hour lane reduction on the southbound 605 Freeway this weekend from Rose Hills Road to south of Beverly Boulevard in Pico Rivera for paving. The roadwork is scheduled to begin at 10 p.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and take another route, including the northbound 110 Freeway, 710 Freeway and State Route 57. There will be no full freeway closures while the work is being completed, the transportation department said. Caltrans said there will be more 55-hour extended weekend lane reductions scheduled this year, and all closures are subject to change. The work is part of the Super 605 Freeway Enhancement Project, which is meant to improve the interstate from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley.
