The CDCabout 1 in 36 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder according to estimates from the CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network.
The shoe was released on May 15 and sold out within minutes, becoming the fastest-selling, most sought-after Nike sneaker that week, along with Travis Scott’s Nike. Lyod intended the shoe to bring awareness to autism and the nonprofit Foundation. Once Nike approved the idea, the team sent Swann’s children blank templates. The instructions stated that they should color, draw and write whatever they wanted. Nike combined the different elements from each template to create the shoe.
Lyod’s vision came to fruition: the shoe drove awareness to the autism community. In addition, people inquired about the Foundation., housed in Florida, hosted the only summer camp for children with autism in the capital of the Sunshine State. Swann and her team hired behavioral therapists and accounted for the safety and extra precautions needed for 25 children with different needs and amenities; she created a place where her child, along with many others, could feel a sense of normalcy.
