Six varied home gardens will be on view on June 11 as part of the San Diego Floral Association’s 2022 garden tour, “More Garden Gems of Kensington.”
he annual event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, is the major fundraiser for the nonprofit.
The San Diego Floral Association’s tour, filled with colorful touches in hardscape as well as in blooms, is a fundraiser for the group’s community outreach. The six gardens in the Kensington neighborhood demonstrate just how differently homeowners approach the creation of an urban garden, said Nancy Carter of the San Diego Floral Association. Some are carefully stylized, some experimentally freeform, and some are exuberantly colorful and densely planted.
One garden is a key source of food for a young family; another was created by a nationally recognized rosarian; a third is the work of succulent specialist Michael Buckner. Two of the gardens occupy large, irregularly shaped lots on curving streets. In completely different ways, Carter said, they show how to design and beautify a nontraditional garden space.
