Understanding D&D subclasses is not always easy.
The many subclasses in Dungeons & Dragons 5e offer a way to make a unique character beyond the choice of a base class and race, but there are subclasses many are playing incorrectly, either by misunderstanding the rules or not using the subclass optimally. Despite the edition’s long lifespan, many basic D&D 5e rules are still misinterpreted, which makes the subclasses that involve those rules harder to play.
5 Path of the Berserker Barbarian Another commonly chosen subclass from the original Player’s Handbook is the Path of the Berserker Barbarian subclass. The signature feature is Frenzy, which allows a player to make any melee weapon attack as a bonus action, but the drawbacks of Frenzy are worse than some players think. Unlike standard Rage, entering a Frenzy causes the character to take a level of Exhaustion when the Rage ends.
Most of the issues with Gloomstalker come down to its heavy reliance on the 5e D&D rules for vision and darkness, which are rules many groups do not fully understand. With a source of Dim Light, Darkvision enables a Ranger to see perfectly, negating Disadvantage on Perception, but it also removes the defensive function of Umbral Sight, since enemies no longer depend solely on Darkvision to detect the Ranger.
2 Echo Knight Fighter The Echo Knight Fighter, added in the Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount official supplement, is arguably overpowered, but many players still do not use it to its full potential. Unleash Incarnation adds extra melee attacks to the attack action, encouraging a melee focus for the subclass. With more attacks, damage-increasing feats like Great Weapon Master are an obvious pairing, but players should not neglect defense.
