“The findings urgently demonstrate the need for the Department to redouble its work in the complex fields of suicide prevention and postvention,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a Current military members are, of course, different from veterans. The DOD report said 44% of active duty troops who died by suicide last year had relationship problems.Forty-two percent were dealing with a mental health diagnosis, including alcohol use disorder, depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, adjustment disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder.About a quarter were dealing with workplace difficulties.Those are all issues that can affect anyone, whether they’re in the military or not.
