A 51-year-old inmate at the Snohomish County jail died Monday afternoon, days after being arrested and booked.
According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the man became unresponsive in the Everett jail around 3 p.m. Monday and was being evaluated by a nurse and a corrections deputy.
Staff called 911 to further evaluate the man, the SCSO said, and as Everett Fire Department personnel arrived, "the male became unresponsive," and after "lifesaving measures" and attempts to "resuscitate the inmate," he died. The 51-year-old was booked into jail by Everett police on Friday for a "protection order violation," according to the SCSO.
The medical examiner will determine the identity of the inmate and the cause of death, the SCSO said. "Following his death, a morbidity review will be conducted," the SCSO said in a statement. "This is a review of the death from a clinical standpoint and is independent of the death investigation, which is being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit."
