WILLOUGHBY, Ohio - A Warren man pleaded not guilty Monday to several felony charges for allegedly stealing a Willoughby Hills ambulance this weekend.
According to Willoughby police, Jamarion Hill, 19, stole the ambulance around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday from UH Lake West Medical Center on Euclid Avenue.Willoughby Police Detective Lieutenant John Begovic said Hill was seen walking around the ambulance by several Willoughby Hills paramedics as they were leaving the hospital emergency room.Willoughby Hills Firefighter/Paramedic Brian Paladino ran to the driver’s side door, climbed partially through the window and struggled with Hill, said police.
Hill crashed the ambulance into the side-wall of the helipad. He was not injured, but Firefighter/Paramedic Paladino suffered minor ankle and arm injuries, said Detective Lieutenant Begovic. Hill is charged with robbery, auto theft, disrupting public service, and one count of misconduct at an emergency.Willoughby Hills Fire Chief Robert J. Gandee said they will be evaluating options to secure their ambulances while they are unattended to handle their duties.
