Proposed New York state legislation would charge New Jersey drivers a $50 fee if a the state passes a law blocking state agencies from helping New York City enforce camera tickets.

Two New York state lawmakers want to charge New Jersey drivers a $50 non-cooperation fee to enter the city if the Garden State enacts a law barring state agencies from proving information about driver who get red light or speed camera tickets in the city.
“It’s one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever heard. It will drive more people away from a city desperately trying to recover from COVID,” O’Scanlon told NJ Advance Media. “New Jersey bans automated enforcement because we know it doesn’t improve safety and is theft.” A spokesman for Gov. Phil Murphy declined to comment on pending legislation. The legislation leaves it up to the New York City DOT to “construct, operate and maintain facilities and equipment identifying those vehicles” to collect fees from.
