CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Fifty local and indigenous farmers from two hinterland barangays in this city have gained skills in organic farming after they graduated from the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan on Sustainable Agriculture Program (KSK-SAP) of the SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI) on Wednesday, August 16.

FIFTY local and indigenous farmers from Barangays Besigan and Tignapoloan, together with officials from the city government of Cagayan de Oro and the SM Foundation Inc. , pose after their graduation from the SMFI Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan on Sustainable Agriculture Program in a mall on Masterson Ave., Cagayan de Oro City, on Wednesday, August 16.

The agriculture program of SMFI aims to provide nationwide support to farmers and uplift their economic status. The training center, which is accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority , provided an interactive demonstration where farmers could directly interact with the technical trainers, allowing them to experience and understand good agricultural practices.

The SMFI supports farmers by connecting with local government units and various government agencies to equip them with practical and sustainable backyard planting and small-scale farming methods for fruits and vegetables. SMFI data showed that KSK-SAP had already trained 28,550 farmers from 3,397 barangays in 916 municipalities in the country from 2007 to 2021.
