Josh Holloway will forever be associated with ABC's landmark mystery series Lost for his star-making performance as con man James"Sawyer" Ford, but his brief time on Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone showed he may have another calling — Westerns.

From the beginning of Season 3 until his death by rattlesnake in the Season 4 premiere, he shone as villain Roarke Morris, who brought the weight of Market Equities down on the Duttons. One thing Holloway hasn't done, however, is saddle up for an old-school Western set out on the frontier. According to the star, that's now about to change very soon, thanks to a new film, Flint. Shortly before the premiere of Holloway's HBO Max crime-thriller series Duster last year, he signed on to lead Flint, from Surprised by Oxford writer-director Ryan Whitaker. The feature is based on the 1960 novel of the same name by prolific western author Louis L'Amour, whose catalog of over 100 novels and 250 short stories has been adapted countless times, including for 1987's The Quick and the Dead and 1991's Conagher, both starring Sam Elliott. Holloway will play callous East Coast businessman James Kettleman, who adopts the name Flint in honor of the killer who raised him, as he returns to his roots in the New Mexico frontier. Drawn into a vicious range war, he begins to reconsider the legacy he wishes to leave behind after meeting rancher Nancy Kennigan and deciding to help her save her land. Holloway brought up Flint during a panel at MegaCon Orlando hosted by Collider's Maggie Lovitt after he was asked about the prospect of working in the genre once again. It would be his first proper Western film, and it's not far off from reaching the screen. He shared a few details about how the project came together and about potentially getting it onto the film festival circuit after production took place in New Mexico last year. He told the audience: "Yes, as a matter of fact, I did my first western that we're looking to get into festivals now. I don't know if you guys know Louis L'Amour, the author. So, I met with his son, who is in charge of his legacy, and he agreed to do a book... so I just finished a western called Flint. You know that book? Flint's great. So we just did the movie, and we'll see where it goes." Related Lights, Camera, Retraction — The Collider Movie Quiz! Sometimes actors quit; other times they're fired. On this first day of spring, we're recalling some famous roles that got a fresh start with a recast. Posts By Macklen Makhloghi 'Flint' Is Just the Beginning of Holloway's Western Ambitions Adapting Flint is something Holloway and Beau L'Amour have been eager to do for nearly two decades, but things are finally in the final stages. Holloway is also set as a producer, making this project all the more personal for him. Yet, even though the process has been lengthier than expected to finally make his first western a reality, he doesn't want it to be his last."We're looking in the independent market, but I've always said I want to pick up where Flint left off, so I want to continue in that genre," he continued. Aside from more classic frontier stories, he wouldn't mind applying his charms to something like"Indiana Jones and all those adventure-type movies I love," either. Right now, he's coming off an appearance in the stylish action crime thriller He Bled Neon, which just premiered at SXSW with a starry lineup including Joe Cole, Rita Ora, Marshawn Lynch, Paul Wesley, and Ismael Cruz Córdova. Stay tuned here at Collider for more on Flint as Holloway and company attempt to bring it to film festivals.
