Five people were transported to St. George Regional Hospital via helicopter due to carbon monoxide poisoning in a house boat on Lake Powell.
Kane County dispatch received a call at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday that said four people had possible carbon monoxide poisoning on a private vessel in Face Canyon, officials said.
When rangers reported to the scene, 21 people were identified, though 16 were treated and released at the time. The other five were transported to St. George via Life Flight, officials said.The source of carbon monoxide was under investigation as of Thursday afternoon. This is the third carbon monoxide-related incident responded to by Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Rangers ," a press release said.
Officials advised anyone on a house boat to have operable CO detectors on board at all times. Symptoms of CO poisoning include headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and confusion. "Boats can collect dangerous levels of CO anytime fuel-burning, engines or appliances are running," officials said.
