Because we’re online daily and for long periods of time, the risks of being a victim of cyber-attack via the internet are increasing.Q2 2022 saw a historic peak, with global cyber-attacks increasing by 32% compared to Q2 2021.A variety of malicious software: computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, ransomware, spyware, adware and scareware, among others. It can take the form of executable code, scripts, active content and other software.
Pankaj Bhula, Regional Director for Africa at Check Point Software says the internet is part of everyone’s daily life and after the pandemic its use has intensified even more. “For this reason, it is important to know the dangers we are exposed to every time we perform tasks such as browsing sites or downloading an application, and to stay protected with a prevention-first stance to avoid putting our data at risk,” says Bhula.

Experts Urge Africa to Collaborate to Ease Internet AccessAffordable and easily accessible internet in Africa remains a challenge in most countries mainly due to lack of collaboration between nations and tech players in this space. To address the challenges, tech giants, internet experts, and government officials from Africa and beyond are in Kigali, Rwanda for a four-day meeting of the 11th edition of the Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF), to harmonise strategies that will see Africa bridge the digital divide and have cheaper internet. Africa is still battling , and according to Rwanda's Permanent Secretary for the Ministry ICT and Innovation, Yves Iradukunda, the region's poor infrastructure gap, particularly in digital infrastructure, remains a major hindrance to realising the vision of connecting all African citizens to the internet. Experts at the meeting are also looking at how they can fast-track the exchange of traffic locally through Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) as a way of reducing internet access costs and network delays and increase content access speeds, reports Edwin Musoni for The New Times.
