But Jennings showed poise and leadership out of the locker room in the second half, leading SMU on three touchdown drives and a field goal drive after halftime. While the Mustangs were able to get on the board not long after, their woes continued throughout the first half. From additional special teams penalties to a missed field goal and a dropped interception, SMU had the opportunities to crawl back into the game in the first half but failed to capitalize.
As anticipated, the Mustangs struggled most in the passing game —262 of 326 yards and all four touchdowns were given up on passing plays.Wesco finished with eight catches for a career-high 143 yards and two touchdowns for 35 and 43 yards. Jake Briginstool had the other two touchdown grabs.
