Rangers descend from easy to queasy as Dessers shows two faces in Champions League – 5 talking points | gavinberryDR
It should have been a Swiss roll for Rangers in Geneva in their Champions League return but instead there is work to be done despite a 2-1 win at Ibrox as they failed to kill off stuffy Servette.
Lithuanian referee Donatas Rumsas had no option but to point to the spot and up stepped Tavernier to fire his effort straight down the middle to send Ibrox wild. And Gers were paid to pay for that as Servette got back into against the run of play. Timothe Cognat swung in a free kick and the ball struck the arm of Dessers. It was spotted by VAR and, amid confusion at the time, the ref pointed to the spot. Bedia wasn’t complaining and up he stepped to fire past Jack Butland.
Beale’s boys make their mark There has been much debate over just what Beale’s strongest starting XI would be as he tried to implement so many chances with nine summer signings. But this is likely to be the team that plays the majority of games this season with Jose Cifuentes - who came on for his debut late on - for Jack perhaps the only change. Beale has signed 11 players in total since he took over midway through last season and fitting them all in was always going to be his challenge.
