At least the Chicago Blackhawks finished a torturous season with a point in 3-2 overtime loss against the Buffalo Sabres.
At some point, GM Davidson said he’ll interview King for the permanent role, something King wasn’t focused on before the season finale. At the very least, Davidson and his staff will pluck King’s brain.
“That was a great signing,” King said. “He’s going to be a big part of the rebuild. He’s the kind of player you need. Brings some energy, he’s a good character kid. They’re moving in the right direction.”With all of his folksy banter and funny quips, some fans may see King as someone who doesn’t take his role seriously, while others value him as a coach who keeps the game in perspective.
“It would’ve been nice to win it in OT but I liked our battle,” coach Derek King said. “The only time we got in trouble was when we lost those puck battles along the walls. They’re a big strong team and they can create offense, but we had some chances. We just didn’t capitalize on them. All in all, good effort.”
“Unfortunate how the season went, I thought we made some strides here for a while and then we just teetered off and lost our edge.”
