The Bay Area hosts some of the nation's best craft fairs.
The Bay Area is home to a vibrant group of artists and craftspeople, or “makers” as they're often called, who are devoted to producing small-batch, locally made goods. The pandemic was a difficult time for such makers, without the network of marketplaces and retail spaces to sustain them. Many turned their attention to e-commerce; others simply buckled down and rode it out. Unfortunately, some were forced to close up shop.
The good news is that craft fairs are back, many with outdoor options, so San Franciscans are able to shop small and local in one place again. In my interviews with dozens of local artists, I was struck by their adherence to a value-driven approach to business, which included a dedication to transparent sourcing, ethical manufacturing and sustainability. Building awareness about our purchasing choices and educating the buyer on the creative process are key tenets in this community.

You just might — or dare we say you're likely to — find a treasure you didn’t know you were looking for.is arguably the mother of all contemporary craft fairs.
