Mark Travers, Ph.D., is an American psychologist with degrees from Cornell University and the University of Colorado Boulder. He is the lead psychologist at Awake Therapy, a telehealth company that provides video and telephone psychotherapy, counseling, and coaching to individuals in over 40 countries worldwide.
Despite the average American child spending approximately 13 hours a week in front of screens, they overwhelmingly prefer being off their devices. This aligns with the findings from a 2023, which observed that children who spent more time on screens, particularly in households with higher parental stress, exhibited increased “internalizing behaviors,” which include psychological issues like anxiety and depression.
