Nakilala ang mga pugante na sina Nilo Ligason, Eron Tomboc, Eden Albana, Raul Doroja, mga may kasong murder; at si Edgar Elbano, na may kasong frustrated murder.
Ayon kay Police Colonel Andre Dizon, Director ng Samar Provincial Police Office, nabaril at napatay naman ng jail officers ang isang bilanggo na naabutang patakas rin, habang isa naman ang sugatan. Kinilala ang namatay na si Edwin Abria. Samantala, ang sugatan at patuloy na ginagamot sa ospital ay si Jovy Openiano.Sa inisyal na imbestigasyon, inilunsad ng mga preso ang jail break habang abala ang jail guards sa pag-aasikaso sa water tanker na mag-dedeliver sana ng tubig.Sinubukan pa umanong saksakin ng mga bilanggo ang mga naka-duty na jail officers.
