The zoo said the gorillas will be closely monitored and tested every few days until they are cleared of the virus. Testing for staff will be increased as well, the zoo said. Staff at the zoo have regularly tested great apes and big cats throughout the pandemic, as both species are known to be able to catch COVID-19.
The zoo said visitors should not be worried about getting the virus from gorillas or other zoo animals.
