5 things to know about the upcoming Poteet Strawberry Festival

The festival’s diamond anniversary will be celebrated this coming weekend. The festivities will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday and go to midnight. Saturday gets off to an earlier start, 10 a.m., and goes to 1 a.m. The festival wraps up Sunday, when it’s open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase on the festival’s website. If you’re on the fence about attending, here are five facts about the fruit-centric fete that might help you make up your mind.In 1948, members of the Poteet Rotary Club held a small fair spotlighting the town’s primary crop, strawberries. However, the club didn’t intend the event to be merely a celebration of Poteet’s agricultural prowess. Instead, they hoped it would entice returning soldiers back to the farms.
