Helen Hunt as Jo Harding and Bill Paxton as Bill Harding at the end of Twister (1996)
Summary With the release of the legacy sequel Twisters, audiences are revisiting the original Twister for the first time in years, and there are several big actors that most people have probably forgotten were in the film. The 1996 classic is one of the best disaster movies of its release decade, and the film's notoriety has caused it to warrant a legacy sequel in 2024.
Although Hoffman ended up becoming a major movie star, he spent most of the early 1990s playing small roles in films like Leap of Faith and Twister. In Twister, Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Dustin Davis, although he most often goes by his nickname Dusty. Dusty is the comedic relief character on the Hardings' tornado-hunting team, with him often being the one behind the loud rock music while the gang is chasing tornadoes.
In Twister, Todd Field plays Tim "Beltzer" Lewis, another one of the storm chasers on the Hardings' team. Field's character plays a relatively small role in Twister, with his character not getting nearly as much development as the other team members. Beltzer is in plenty of scenes, but the character doesn't really contribute to the main story. This is a shame, as Todd Field has proven himself to be a great actor who could have contributed more to the world of Twister.
Although Alan Ruck got his start in television, his career has actually made a major pivot, with Ruck now being more popular for his television roles. Ruck was one of the main actors on the sitcom Spin City from 1996-2002 and appeared in prestige TV shows throughout the 2010s and 2020s like Fox's The Exorcist and the hit HBO series Succession. Ruck was one of Succession's main characters, playing the outcast of the Roy family, Connor Roy.
