A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit the east shore of Lake Almanor on Thursday and its impact was felt in Butte County and beyond.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported on its earthquake site that the earthquake was 5.9 km deep and shook at 4:19 p.m. The epicenter was located about 2 kilometers south-southwest of East Shore on the lake.
PG&E’s Plumas County hydro control center had no reports of any issues or flow changes with dams or hydroelectric facilities at 6:07 p.m., according to PG&E Marketing and Communications principal Paul Moreno.Plumas County Supervisor Tom McGowan said he received reports of damage in the area but no serious or structural damages. He said propane and water lines in the area were switched off.
McGowan said he expects a lot more damage to be discovered between now and the beginning of June as the area is just starting to open for the season.
