Trey Lance and Sam Darnold are unwavering in their support of Brock Purdy, who’s seized all first-team reps through his two practices of 49ers training camp.
SANTA CLARA — Neither Trey Lance nor Sam Darnold sounds bitter. Their reps are scarce. Their jobs are less prestigious. But they soldier on, jockeying for second-team reps in 49ers training camp.Purdy has lined up for every first-team snap — 21 on Thursday, 18 on Friday — in his first practices since a devastating elbow injury in the NFC Championship Game.
“We hadn’t had any conversations,” Lance said after Friday’s practice. “So, just find out right before practice what the rep count is going to be and take advantage of every rep.San Francisco 49er quarterback Brock Purdy participates for the first time in training camp practice, Thursday, July 27, 2023, in Santa Clara, Calif.
“I’m not thinking about it. I’m taking it one day at a time, one rep at a time,” Lance said. “I’m just taking advantage of every rep and trying to compete.” “Brock, I don’t know exactly what it was, but I don’t think he lost game a last year. He went to the NFC Championship and who knows what could have happened if he didn’t get hurt,” Darnold said. “I get it. I’m here to get all the opportunities that I can and see what my role is for this team.”
