By design, Niners receiver Deebo Samuel stepped upfield on the snap to block a Broncos defensive back, and Jimmy Garoppolo hit Brandon Aiyuk in the space created underneath for a two-yard touchdown."It was indeed offensive pass interference," said former NFL referee Terry McAulay."It's illegal to block more than a yard downfield and the receiver clearly does that.
Play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico thought it was less definitive than that."It's a gray area," Tirico said."It's 1-ish and it's still bang-bang." NBC analyst and former NFL receiver Cris Collinsworth disagreed."As a receiver, you really have to act like you're running some kind of route," Collinsworth said."He was pretty obvious with it."
