Keena Turner, a four-time Super Bowl-winning linebacker and long-time member of the 49ers’ front office, will enter the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame this October.

Turner was photographed in the Super Bowl wing of the team museum, Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2023, in Santa Clara, Calif. with the 49ers extends beyond being a four-time champion linebacker and serving nearly 30 years as a humble leader in their front office. He’ll also now be honored in their Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame as this year’s inductee.
Turner, 67, might be the most understated yet regal 49er of them all, with longevity to boot as he’s commuted for decades from his family’s Tracy home to the 49ers’ Santa Clara headquarters. Turner was photographed in the Super Bowl wing of the team museum, Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2023, in Santa Clara, Calif. Turner expressed being “deeply humbled” as the 34th inductee into the 49ers’ Hall of Fame, come their Oct. 19 home game against Washington on “Monday Night Football.
” “I wouldn’t be in this position if it wasn’t for the extraordinary teammates and coaches who helped me attain success on and off the field as well as the dedicated ownership that has helped shape this franchise’s legacy,” Turner said in a statement.
“To have served this organization since 1980, one of the most iconic in all of sports, has been the honor of a lifetime. Being recognized as a piece of that history, alongside so many legends who have worn the red and gold, is a profound privilege. ”Turner played all 11 of his NFL seasons in the 49ers’ most celebrated era.
His 153 games are matched by Pro Football Hall of Famer Dave Wilcox for second-most by a 49ers linebacker behind Matt Hazeltine. Statistically, he was the first 49ers player to record 10 sacks and 10 interceptions.
Four of those picks came as Turner earned his lone Pro Bowl honors and the 49ers’ Len Eshmont Award while playing on arguably their greatest defense — in their 1984 season en route to a Super Bowl triumph over the Miami Dolphins and Dan Marino at Stanford Stadium. Turner totaled 562 tackles, 62 passes defensed, 19.5 sacks, 11 interceptions, eight forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries and, of course, four rings.

Four years ago, Turner overcame a greater health crisis after an aortic aneurysm was discovered. He put off surgery until the 2023 offseason yet continued on as a senior adviser to general manager John Lynch. Turner has served in that front-office capacity for a decade, after several other roles since 2008 focusing on player development, alumni outreach and community relations, not to mention preseason work as a 49ers’ television analyst from 1995-2009.
Turner also spent three seasons coaching linebackers at Stanford under Bill Walsh, his former 49ers coach. Turner was inducted in 2006 to Purdue’s hall of fame, and more enshrinements followed with the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Northern California , the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame . Next up is a spot in the 49ers’ where he’ll have a statue in his honor inside their museum at Levi’s Stadium.
