San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey surprisingly missed Monday night's season opener against the New York Jets due to a lingering calf injury and Achilles tendonitis. McCaffrey and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan expected McCaffrey to play but ruled him out shortly before the end of the gameMcCaffrey originally injured his calf during training camp in early August, causing him to miss multiple weeks of practice and any preseason action.
