49ers quarterback Brock Purdy plans to return sooner than expected.
Purdy is having an elbow surgery that requires only about six months of recovery, instead of the more invasive Tommy John surgery, according to multiple reports. The surgery, which Purdy will reportedly have in Texas in two weeks,"will allow Purdy to make a full recovery & be ready for training camp,"Purdy suffered the torn ligament in his elbow in the blowout loss to the Eagles on Jan.
The rookie was left to just hand the ball off and meagerly throw the ball a few yards at a time as Philadelphia would punch its ticket to the Super Bowl, 31-7. PurdyPurdy had three courses of action for treating the injury,: regular rehab, surgery on the torn UCL or full reconstruction through Tommy John surgery. The second option, which the quarterback ultimately chose, means that Purdy could be back by the time training camp rolls around at the end of July.
It's welcome news for the Niners, who have Trey Lance as their only other quarterback on the roster. Lance had a second ankle surgery in December after breaking his ankle in September.
